Every Child Project for India
This
project is an extension of the ministry doors that opened because
of the tsunami; Feed the Hungry will purchase bulk quantities
of rice, dhal... eggs, fresh vegetables, cooking oil, and
milk over a six month period initially (May-October) to provide daily
meals to 1,000 orphaned and vulnerable children (abandoned, neglected,
child-laborers) in Andra Pradesh, India.
We have already sent the funds to purchase the first month's
allotment of food for the children's daily meals. Our partner
ministry, Mercy and Grace Ministries, and their teams will prepare
the food daily and feed the kids alongside a gospel/educational program
where the children will learn about Jesus and the Bible and learn/improve
their reading & writing skills.
Canada has a unique opportunity to provide the Children's Literature
Kits for this project!! Each kit costs $8.50 and contains: 1 Bible,
1 Scripture Workbook, 1 Christian Coloring Book, 1 Set of Crayons,
1 Song Book, and a notebook and a pen. These are all in the Telegu
language, the predominant language in that part of India. If you would
like to contribute to this project, please contact your church representative,
or contact us directly at 604-244-7879 or doreensparman@lesea.org
Darfur, Sudan
We're moving forward with a project to acquire five more containers
of the ready-to-eat meal packages that we are now shipping to various
nations in Africa for the troubled region of Darfur, Sudan. The
meals (1.375 million) will be distributed through a partnership with
Safe Harbor ministries.
Safe Harbor will reopen a ministry center in Nyinbouli, just south
of Darfur; they will continuously bring in teams of medical workers
&volunteers to minister one-on-one to the Sudanese via medical
clinics, counseling, and a feeding & meal distribution center.
We also hope to send a large quantity and variety of Arabic gospel
literature for adults and children. The Jesus film in Arabic will
be shown in the evenings followed by a short salvation message from
a Sudanese pastor.
Zimbabwe
We are pursuing an additional six containers of ready-to-eat
meal packages (1.625 million meals) for Zimbabwe. The Evangelical
Fellowship of Zimbabwe, an umbrella body of over 180 denominations
and para-church organizations, is requesting assistance for this nation
that has experienced numerous setbacks due to drought, disease, and
political upheaval.
The famine is being hidden by the AIDS epidemic, with more than a
quarter of the population HIV-positive. Pediatricians in the two main
cities of Harare and Bulawayo told the newspapers that child malnutrition
has doubled over the past year. At least 20 corpses of newborn babies
are found each week, thrown away or flushed down lavatories. President
Robert Mugabe's Murambatsvina Operation (loosely translated
‘drive out the filth') has left more than 700,000 people
homeless and digging through garbage to survive.
Four Nation Appeal Expanded
Since the appeal letter was sent out in April, more requests for aid
have come in. The need is so widespread -- because the hunger in much
of Africa is overwhelming. And of all the pleas for help from
Africa and indeed from around the world, from places you've never heard of,
there is one common thread...
one word they always use: please. They are hoping,
they are praying, they are crying out for help. We
are eager to answer their cry. We are now endeavoring to send food
to Kenya & Niger as well.
Pakistan Earthquake Relief - Update
A container of rice and tents recently arrived in Lahore, Pakistan.
Ps. Salik is moving them up North to the affected areas as we speak, and
estimates that he urgently needs another 25 tonnes of flour,
rice and cooking oil.
Every Child/Every Day Update
We recently received some updates from two of the Christian
Orphanages that FTH is supporting... as part of our Feeding
Every Child/ Every Day program.
Your support through FTH has allowed these Christian ministries to
bring new children in and, in one case, to open another school knowing
that the children's meals would be provided for.
“I am grateful for Feed The Hungry's compassion to
our children and nation as a whole. Our orphanage Joshua Youth Academy
was established to care for the children who lost their families due
to HIV/AIDS and other calamities. Currently the orphanage extended
its service for 50 orphans who are orphans indeed, having lost both
their father and mother. We will extend our ministry to 72 and then
to 144 orphans phase by phase as our new building project is completed.
Feed The Hungry last year donated food items that
fed our children for nearly a year's time. We are so grateful
to Feed The Hungry for the aid you have given. I appreciate your consideration
and generosity to bless us with food support as God prospers you.”

“The children at our refugee school have all been born
in this camp. Their families fled from Burma back in 1995 to become
refugees on Thai soil. These children know nothing of the world except
refugee life. The camp provides meager portions of rice, salt, and
fermented bean wafers; hardly enough to make a decent meal. The children
at Living Word School are provided with a daily hot meal of vegetables,
meat or egg along with rice or noodles. For many this is a highlight
of their day!
Feed The Hungry is helping us to provide nourishing
meals for over 500 children in the Nation of Thailand; children who
otherwise would be left to fend for themselves. We give our heartfelt
thanks for helping us to fill their bellies. Through this simple act
we have been able to demonstrate the love of God and fill their hearts
with the Word of God.”
