Japan Disaster Relief Update

As we wind down our disaster relief role in Japan after the devastating earthquake and tsunami last March, we are contemplating our long-term role for the survivors of this disaster.   Pastor Makato of Tokyo Bible Church assessed the opportunity and feasibility of establishing an orphanage in Inawashiro, Fukushima, for children who have been left orphaned and homeless through this tragedy.  Interestingly, history shows that this is the very place where the first Christians in Japan were persecuted and killed. Now it represents an opportunity to become an education centre for youth, care centre for orphans, and a business centre to propose new industry to local people who lost their means of livelihood because of the radiation leaks.

Please pray that FTH will move forward with God's wisdom and clarity in this matter as we work together to continue ministering to the people of Japan.

Feeding Every Child Every Day

U.N. reports show that 10.9 million children under five die in developing countries each year. Malnutrition and hunger-related diseases cause 60 percent of the deaths. Because of your faithful support, Feed the Hungry is providing hope for children worldwide. Through a network of local pastors and churches in more than 20 nations, over 30,000 children are receiving a hot and nutritious meal daily. But so much more must be done. Our feeding centres are growing at a rapid rate. Demand is outpacing supply and desperately hungry children have to stand on the sidelines and watch as others receive the meal they desperately need to survive.  Please help us respond to these children...it’s saving lives!

Helping Stop Cholera in Haiti

The cholera outbreak in Haiti in 2010 saw more than 150,000 Haitians were infected and 3,500 die in an epidemic that hadn’t been seen in over 100 years. Unfortunately, the World Health Organization predicted a second wave of cholera for 2011, and the death toll has already begun rising again. As many as 400,000 Haitians could be affected by this new outbreak.

Through your faithful generosity and sacrifice FTH has installed a 10,000 gallon/day water purification unit at the "Williamson" campus of our partner ministry, Mercy & Sharing.  This clean drinking water, and a program educating local communities on proper hygiene and sanitation will combat and prevent the spread of cholera

Humanitarian Crisis in Abidjan

Civil and political unrest resulted in the loss of thousands of lives last year in the nation of Abidjan.  Bullets, shelling, and looting forced thousands to barricade themselves in their homes or scramble desperately across the capital looking for refuge. Four million people were trapped, unable to flee the city earlier this year.

The political crisis has abated with recent democratic elections, however month by month the humanitarian crisis continues to grow. Today, more than 300,000 people are still displaced in the West African nation of Ivory Coast.

Feed The Hungry has been providing aid to the refugees, - supplying rice, beans, vegetables, & palm oil for churches acting as cities of refuge, feeding displaced children and families.
