Haiti - One Year Later | News

January 12, 2011

It’s hard to believe that a year has passed by since the devastating earthquake that shook Haiti, killing about 250,000 people and leaving more than a million homeless. Along with many other aid agencies, Feed the Hungry rushed in to provide food, temporary shelter, and hope in Christ immediately following the disaster.  And we have remained throughout the year, thanks to the generous support of our partners around the world!  Throughout 2010 we have provided over 20 containers of rice, oil, beans, tarps, blankets, water, and most importantly Haitian bibles bringing the hope that is in Christ Jesus.  And we continue to provide support with food, solar panels for permanent dwellings, and even a playground for a permanent refugee village!  FTH has been ministering in Haiti for almost 2 decades, and will continue to help this nation that is close to our hearts.

As we move on from here we are mindful of the continued escalation of need in the country.  The cholera outbreak has claimed 3,651 lives to date, and the World Health Organisation has said that we haven’t seen the peak yet, with 100 new cases being detected each day.  And the recent elections have escalated frustration and unrest among the people, who have already been stretched beyond their capacity.

Many lives have been touched by the generous and compassionate response of Feed the Hungry and our partners.  But the crisis is not over and it is important for us to stay - not only to provide life-saving food and water, but to offer support and the hope of Christ to our brothers and sisters.

Thank you for your ongoing prayers and support for the people of Haiti!!
