Dr. Lester Sumrall (1913-1996) traveled the world as a missionary statesman for over sixty years and saw firsthand the terrible suffering caused by hunger and poverty.

In 1987, he rose to the challenge to feed those innocent people who are plagued by such desperate situations. With enthusiasm and determination, Dr. Sumrall founded LeSEA Global Feed The Hungry® that same year.

From its conception, Dr. Sumrall stressed the need for Feed The Hungry to help those in need both physically and spiritually. Feed The Hungry is feeding more than just empty bellies. With each distribution we ensure that people have the opportunity to hear the Gospel of Jesus. While physical food will only last for a short time, the people are also given the Bread of Life that will last for eternity.

LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry® has a strong network of international offices that help provide emergency relief to those in need due to famine, drought, flood, war, or other natural disaster. In 1991, Pastor Casey Treat of Seattle, WA generously donated his Canadian charity in order to allow Canada to participate in the vision that Dr. Sumrall had to feed hungry people all over the world. This ministry was known as LeSEA Ministries Inc., and operated as the LGFTH international office in Canada until 2005. In March 2005 LeSEA Ministries Inc. made a decision to dissolve the charity and their relationship with LGFTH.

Pastors Don and Doreen Sparman have worked with Dr. Sumrall and LeSEA Inc. for many years and strongly believe that Canada has a desire for a continued role in the vision to feed hungry people and minister to body, soul, and spirit. Thus the ministry and vision of Feed the Hungry continues to move forward in Canada today as a fully registered charity, and as a unified international office of LeSEA Global Feed the Hungry®.

Feed the Hungry is uniquely different in that we directly oversee the entire relief process, making sure your contributions get into the hands of those in need without third-world government intervention. Before a food distribution takes place, we secure guarantees from the appropriate government agencies, giving us the rights to distribute the food directly through local churches. Local pastors and churches understand and know the people and conditions within their community. Under the direction and leadership of Feed The Hungry, distribution plans are created and implemented so the people receive the food as intended.
